The Beauty of Coping
Coping Strategies through the DBT ACCEPTS Model and Its Role in SEL and Mental Wellness
Workshop Description:
This workshop equips educators with practical tools and strategies for supporting student and teacher well-being using the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) ACCEPTS Model. Designed for teachers and school staff, this session will delve into the ACCEPTS Model—a set of six coping skills (Activities, Contributing, Comparisons, Emotions, Pushing Away, Thoughts, and Sensations)—and explore how these skills can be integrated into social-emotional learning (SEL) frameworks to enhance emotional regulation and resilience in the classroom.
Participants will gain a thorough understanding of each component of the ACCEPTS Model and how it aligns with key SEL competencies such as self-management, responsible decision-making, and relationship skills. Through engaging, hands-on activities, educators will learn how to teach these coping strategies to students, helping them navigate stress, anxiety, and emotional challenges. Additionally, this workshop will provide teachers with valuable self-care techniques, empowering them to manage their own stress and maintain a balanced, positive classroom environment.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be equipped with:
- A clear understanding of the DBT ACCEPTS Model and its practical application in educational settings.
- Strategies to incorporate ACCEPTS skills into daily classroom routines and SEL curricula.
- Techniques for fostering a classroom culture that supports emotional well-being and resilience.
- Tools for teachers to model and practice coping strategies, promoting their own mental wellness alongside their students.
Join us to discover how the ACCEPTS Model can be a transformative tool in building a supportive, emotionally healthy learning environment for both students and teachers.
